MWTR-Talking About Courage & Guest Billy Jack McDaniel

As Billy Jack started his career in the oil field, A’Leta had went to school to be a nail tech.  She and her best friend started the salon “Hello Beautiful”.  It was on track to be the top salon in the state. She had a great career going.  A’Leta was a great mother and mostly stayed home with Carney while Billy Jack was at the rig.  She scheduled most of her clients for the week Billy Jack was at home so he could stay with Carney. It was a great set up and they were saving a little money as well as having a lot of fun.  As A’Leta was excelling at the salon, Billy Jack was moving up in the oil field, and I mean literally.  Billy Jack started out as a clean up hand, picking up cigarette butts on location.  It wasn’t long before he had moved up to floors and then when the old rig 72 stacked, he was moved to a new rig 226.  It was there that Billy Jack was given the opportunity to really shine.  He was asked to fill in for a guy who was moved up to derricks but was scared of heights. The derrick board is about 150ft off the ground. It was not long before Billy Jack had the job and he loved it.

On March 3rd 2006 just after 11:30pm that Friday night a stripper rubber failed and allowed gas to escape from the hole. It was believed it was static electricity that caused a spark just large enough to ignite the inferno.  Billy Jack was trapped in a fire of well over 1500 degrees and it lasted for over 20 seconds. He was actually melting alive.   At just about 12:03am, A’Leta received the dreaded phone call. It was the same superintendent that hired Billy Jack telling A’Leta to come to the door.  All that he knew was there was an explosion on the rig.  Since he knew the operation we were in, he knew where Billy Jack was and that he was probably dead. As A’Leta was getting hher few things together and getting her dad to get Carney, Billy Jack was fighting for his life. He had to work with the other hands to try and get down. Yes, he was still conscious. After they got him to the rig floor they toted him to the ground in a basket type gurney.  They sat him in the gravel and he heard one say “ how are we going to get him out of that”. Billy Jack stood up, and it was a fearful sight to say the least, but he walked into the ambulance and lay down.

Billy Jack is one of the worst living burn survivors in the world. The mental and physical strength this family has is truly a gift from God. Billy Jack amazed the doctors and nurses that came to see him from all over the world. He was given less than a 0 percent to live and told if he did survive he would be years in the hospital.  He proved them all wrong, and walked out 4 months and 17 days later.

MWTR-Guest Roberts Liardon

In his fourth God's Generals volume, Roberts Liardon chronicles God's great healing evangelists of the twentieth century. Journey with such paragons of faith as: " Oral Roberts-one of the most influential Christian leaders in the twentieth century, Roberts had a healing ministry that spread from rural tent meetings to a world-class university, hospital, and medical school. " Lester Sumrall-after being miraculously healed of tuberculosis as a boy, Sumrall dedicated the rest of his life to sharing the gospel and God's healing power with audiences around the world, both in person and through television broadcasts. " Charles and Frances Hunter-often called the "Happy Hunters," Charles and Frances were known around the world as two of the most anointed and enthusiastic evangelists on earth. " George Jeffreys-this Welsh Pentecostal minister-along with his brother Stephen- ministered at camps, conventions, and church meetings across England and Ireland, with reports of miraculous healings and other acts of God accompanying them. " F. F. Bosworth-a Depression-era Pentecostal faith healer and one of the founders of the Assemblies of God, Bosworth was known during the 1920s for his interdenominational "big tent" revivals and large auditorium healing meetings. As you read about the lives of these ministry pioneers, your faith for signs and miracles will grow as you anticipate seeing God's mighty hand move in the church today.

Called into ministry at the age of eight, Roberts Liardon has preached in more than eighty countries with extensive ministry in Europe, Asia, and Africa. He has founded Roberts Liardon Ministries, along with the multifaceted outreaches of Embassy Christian Center, Embassy Ministerial Association, Spirit Life Bible College, and Operation 500. As a best-selling author, Roberts has expanded his ministry to the printed page. His over four dozen books have been translated into over fifty languages and circulated throughout the world. Through founding the Reformers and Revivalists Historical Museum, Roberts also fervently pursues research of our Christian heritage, which he has documented in God’s Generals: Why They Succeeded and Why Some Failed; God’s Generals: The Roaring Reformers; God’s Generals: The Revivalists; and God’s Generals: The Healing Evangelists. His ministry is now based in Sarasota, Florida.

MWTR-Guest Christa Black Gifford

While Christa’s effortless singing and accomplished violin and songwriting abilities have attracted critical acclaim, she is much more than just a musician. Her passion for speaking and writing have inspired thousands to find freedom from addictions, eating disorders, shame, and self-hatred.

Christa began her songwriting career during one of the most difficult times in her life. In a desert treatment facility for eating disorders, she admitted herself for forty days and picked up an old guitar, writing songs that helped cope with the pain of her addictions. Songwriting for personal therapy led to writing for others, and her songs—including the multi-platinum-selling songs God Loves Ugly and Was I The Only One recorded by American Idol winner Jordin Sparks, Deep In Love With

Whenever Christa Black looked in the mirror, she was waging a war with herself. Her hatred of her face and body drove her, as a young woman, into frantic overachievement, addiction, and an eating disorder that landed her in rehab. A preacher's kid, she'd grown up imagining God as a "thou shalt not" tyrant. It was only when she miraculously discovered God's unconditional love for her--physical imperfections, moral failings, and all--that she finally began to accept herself. As she tells her story, Christa shares the tools she uses to combat the self-rejection that harms so many people's lives.

In this raw testimony, Christa Black takes women on a step-by-step journey of faith and positive belief to reveal that if God loves ugly, then we can too.

You and Help Is On The Way by Grammy winning artist Michael W. Smith,  One Thing Remains by Kristian Stanfill of Passion, Unstoppable Love and The King Is Here by Kim Walker-Smith, and Forever by Kari Jobe—have inspired listeners to explore places of their heart they might have fought to ignore.

Christa’s book God Loves Ugly chronicles her personal journey out of destructive cycles into a life of freedom. Unashamedly transparent, she describes her painful struggle to find personal peace from the monsters of insecurity, self-hatred, sexual abuse, depression, and eating disorders. She takes the reader on a journey of self-discovery, exposing the negative thoughts, feelings, and emotions that can lead to paths of bondage. Her conversational style and light-hearted storytelling will leave you laughing at her mistakes, challenged by her teaching, and crying with her pain, inviting the reader into practical steps towards healing and freedom.

MWTR-Guest Julie Elias

In 2014, Julie released her first worship album, "Love Rain Down." Combining popular worship songs with lesser-known gems and originals, "Love Rain Down" is a worship experience that reminds us God is there though the highs, lows and all the times in between. Meaningful topics combined with great music makes this an album you don't want to miss.

In a rather unconventional road to Christian music, new artist Julie Elias has had to learn and adapt to a new field pretty quickly. “I feel like I got a Masters’ degree worth of information in the first two years, everything was so new! I hear of a lot of worship leaders and Christian artists who have wanted to do it their whole lives. Even though I grew up singing in church with our praise team, it was never something I pictured doing with my life. Never.”

Julie’s path included a passion for musical theatre, film and acting which took her to the hustle-and-bustle of Hollywood. Appearing regularly on shows like “Grey’s Anatomy” and “CSI:NY” and even in films with the megastars like Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts made for some great experiences but left her empty in the long term. “Once the initial excitement wore off, I realized that acting alone was not making me feel significant. Since a little girl, I wanted to do something with my life that really impacted others and this wasn’t it for me. I prayed to God that He would open doors that would reveal His master plan for my life, so obviously clear that even a stubborn 20-something like me couldn’t ignore them. And He did. Almost immediately.”

Despite what some could see as a delay in her calling, Julie recognizes that her previous experiences were crucial to where she is today. “It was definitely where I was supposed to be at that time. It shaped a huge part of my identity in my young adult life. The crew and actors I met on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ really encouraged me and in Hollywood, you don’t always find people who truly want the best for others. I learned so much by that experience and I am so grateful for that chapter.”

Julie is the first to recognize that all of her life experiences have proven essential to her ministry, songwriting and a new series of teen Topic-Driven Concerts that she does at youth groups across the country. “All of the topics I cover – real beauty, rejection, etc. – all are from personal experience. Nowhere do you learn about rejection faster than trying to be an actress in Hollywood!!” she laughs. The concerts include skits based on the topics, a short message, a free 16-page book on the topic (authored by Julie), and, of course, tons of music.

MWTR- Guest Colonel Stephen M. Bauer

All the Rabbis have been wrong for 2,000 years.

The Math of Christ uses the fundamental tenets of science to prove conclusively that Jesus Christ fulfilled the prophecies about the coming Messiah for all people. Predictions written centuries before the birth of Christ describe how man can identify the only valid offer of salvation and eternal life for all mankind.

True Christians already possess sufficient faith in Christ as the Messiah. This book is written for those technical people and children whose faith may be challenged by science taught in public schools.

The Math of Christ will show you how the odds of forty prophecies about the Messiah could not possibly have happened by accident, but rather had to have been the result of a purposeful design. The Father of Mathematical Probability, Dr. Emil Borel confirms that these events were no grand coincidence.

Readers will also discover how many other prophecies in the Bible have already come true, how the Bible is full of science knowledge revealed centuries before man actually discovered these facts, how the Earth was made specifically for man to live in and how life would be impossible if very minor changes were made in its existence.

Every Christian will want to read The Math of Christ to strengthen their own faith. They will also want a copy for every person they have tried to witness to and reach.

Author and lecturer, Colonel Stephen M. Bauer served longer as a Military Social Aide than anyone in the history of the White House. Under Presidents Nixon, Ford, and Carter, he was responsible for supervising the conduct of numerous social and ceremonial functions for the First Family. He later held a staff position under Presidents Reagan and Bush. His books, "At Ease in the White House" and "How to Sell to the United States Government" are based on his experiences in working for these five Presidents.

Steve retired from the Army in 1993 after 28 years of service. His military career included a variety of assignments including Infantry combat tours in Vietnam and the DMZ in Korea and a tour with the President's Honor Guard, as well as a number of positions on the business side of the Army. Steve was born in Albany, Oregon in an Army family. He was a Distinguished Military Graduate from Texas A&M in 1965 with a BBA and from George Washington University in 1975 with an MBA in Government Procurement and Contracting. During an extended period in Washington, D.C., Steve performed collateral duty as a Military Social Aide at the White House from November 1971 to September 1977. He also had a direct part in several Presidential funerals.

Steve's awards include the Presidential Service Badge, Combat Infantryman's Badge, Parachute Badge, Defense Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, three Defense Meritorious Service Medals, Army Meritorious Service Medal, and two Army Commendation Medals among others. Steve and his wife Linda have two boys.

Linda and Steve co-authored "Recipes from Historic Texas", "Recipes from Historic America", "Recipes from Historic Louisiana", "Recipes from Historic Colorado", "Recipes from Historic California" and "Recipes from Historic New England". A portion of the proceeds from the Louisiana book go to hurricane relief. The National Press Club has featured several of these books at its annual author night. Steve's latest books are "The Math of Christ" and a novel, "Chameleon". The Bauers live in the Houston area. Both Steve and Linda were honored as Champions of Literacy at an event that raised over $150,000 for Literacy Advance in Houston. They also were presenters at the Metropolitan Cooking & Entertainment Show in September, 2011 along with Paula Deen, at the Reliant Center in Houston.

Steve has lectured on his White House experiences for the past 26 years, appearing on the Joan Rivers Show, the Joy Behar Show, and numerous news programs on Fox, CBS and NBC. Col Bauer has also been a featured speaker on many World Cruises, more than 30 international cruise ships, The Texas Book Festival, a variety of fundraisers for civic events, dozens of luncheon and dinner clubs, the George H. W. Bush Presidential Library, the CIA headquarters at Langley, and the Texas Legislative Wives Club.

Standard Lecture Presentation, "Social Life in the White House", can be 20 -75 minutes or longer if desired. The lecture covers anecdotes about every President from LBJ to Barack Obama.

    MWTR-Guest Wallace Henley

From globalization to the digital revolution, secularization to the great recession, change has never happened so fast and wide and deep as we have seen in recent years. The nature of information and the speed with which it travels is unparalleled, and it is changing our world in seismic ways that reach into every crevice of our lives. It's as if the tectonic plates of society and culture are being torn apart and reshaped right under our feet. We are living through a cultural "GLOBEQUAKE."

How should we respond as families? In business? Through our churches?

With the hope and stability found not on this shifting ground but in the one who created the heavens and earth, says pastor and best-selling author Wallace Henley. Drawing from his experiences in politics and journalism plus his deep biblical knowledge, Henley's analysis is clear, insightful, and thought provoking. There is no alarmist agenda here. Globequake is a well-reasoned guide to navigating the spheres of our lives in a godly manner, even as those spheres wobble on their axes.

"Globequake looks at current events and puts them in the context of the larger prophetic picture." ?Cal Thomas, syndicated and USA Today columnist, and Fox News contributor.

Wallace Henley (M.A.) has worked for more than three decades in the fields of journalism, government, and the church. Wallace's passion is helping develop visionary leaders for church, family, education, governance, and business, working through Headwaters Leadership Institute. Wallace is associate pastor at Houston's 57,000-member Second Baptist Church. He is the author of more than 20 books, and served as an aide to President Nixon.

How could one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight...?
    —Deuteronomy 32:30

Today's pastor or church leader faces a host of dangers, both physical and spiritual, that can destroy ministries, families, and even take the very life of the leader. Thankfully, God has not left us defenseless in the spiritual battle against the forces of evil.

In this much-needed book, Bryan Cutshall does a masterful job of clearly defining the often-overlooked and seldom-appreciated role of the armorbearer. Using biblical examples and references, he paints an accurate portrait of the armorbearer's role, position, and relationship with his or her leader.

When church leaders understand and utilize this important spiritual ministry, the kingdom of God will be able to advance, stronger, and mightier than ever before.

Bryan Cutshall is the senior pastor of Twin Rivers Worship Center in St. Louis, Missouri. As a long-term pastor, he has watched Twin Rivers church grow from fifty-two people to one of the most vital megachurches in the Midwest.

    *Take authority over the enemy
*Learn to receive and hold on to healing
*Understand what it means to "think right" and "speak right"

Also included is a topical guide to spiritual warfare strategies, arranged alphabetically, that will address many needs of the believer. When problems and attacks come calling, the believer will have a concise compilation of Scripture to keep his or her thinking on course.

Now, believers have a resource containing specific Scriptures and biblical declarations that will help them to renew their minds and learn to think like God thinks.

    MWTR-Guest Andrew Maloney

Andrew Maloney visits today's Midwatch. Andrew Maloney grew up in the backseat of a car, traveling across the States and abroad with his healing evangelist parents. It gave him lots of time, staring out the window, to come up with some fantastic ideas for stories. He graduated from the University of North Texas with an arts degree in writing and has ghostwritten and edited more than a dozen books. Along with the next novel in the Blue Time series, he is currently writing a sequel to his fiction book, The Elementalists. The Master Song, first of Andrew Maloney’s Blue Time series is now available. Written in the vein of The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis and The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien, this high-fantasy fiction tale is aimed at the genre’s wide fan base, from young teens to adults. MWTR-Guest Jo Naughton

Jo Naughton is an international speaker and author. She is a regular monthly guest on the UK’s leading Christian radio station, where she is affectionately known as the “Soul Doctor,” and a regular contributor to Christian magazines. She and her husband, Paul, pastor Harvest Church in London, England. They have two children, Benjamin and Abigail.

Hurt, disappointed, messed up, and dried out—that’s how many of us feel in life as we carry on the best we can. 30-Day Detox for Your Soul is more than a devotional—it is a spiritual “deep clean” or “health spa” that gently but effectively uncovers the issues of the heart (both old and new) that negatively affect the way we live and act, allowing God to heal us and set us free, spiritually and emotionally.

Writing from her own experiences with heart-piercing honesty, author Jo Naughton provides an easy-to-follow daily journey that will ignite a new fire in our relationship with God, leading to renewed purpose and the fulfilment of our true destiny in life.
